Hello to everyone. February was
an eventful month for Shiloh Lodge! On
February 3rd, we held our monthly Business meeting. This was preceded by dinner at Sizzlers
attended by several Brethren. The
business meeting went very well, though a little long due to dealing with
January business as well. On February 4th
– 6th, I attended Grand Lodge Annual Communication along with
several other brothers. I attended a
couple of workshops, and the business meetings. I am sorry to report that the resolution to raise the per capita
charge by $18.50 over a 3 year period failed again. I feel this is an important issue, as the 2009 budget for the
Grand Lodge was set for $-75,000.00 and the 2010 Budget was set for
$-67,000.00. This type of budgeting is
unsustainable, and threatens the Fraternity we all love.
On February 9th, the 2010 Sweethearts Dinner was held at the
Upstream Brewery at 171st and West Center. Thank you to everyone who attended. It was a great time, and the food was excellent.
On February 10th, Shiloh initiated Brother Dave Dawson in the
EA degree.
March will be a busy time as well, as Shiloh will work on a new candidate
as well as hosting the 1st section of the Master Mason degree for
the Grand Lodge School of Instruction on March 24th.
Bethel 69 Jobs Daughters will be having a Spaghetti Feed fundraiser on
that same night, from 4:30 – 6:30.
One final date of note is April 11th, when the TempleCraft
will be having a Pancake Feed to support raising money towards the Insurance
Deductible.
Sincerely,
Matthew Vandergriff
Worshipful Master
These are the two
brick-shaped stones on either side of the middle candle. A rough ashlar is a rough, squared
stone from the quarry that has been shaped but has not yet been made perfectly
smooth. A perfect (or smooth) ashlar
is the completed piece of workmanship, made smooth for the use in a building by
a craftsman.
The rough ashlar
represents man in his rough, rude, and imperfect state. Masons are taught that by education,
culture, discipline, and faith, they can become a more perfect person, like the
perfect ashlar, thereby fitting themselves “as living stones for that spiritual
house, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
